These works are made while sitting at a table. They begin with a paper armature and then colors get mixed in with wet papier mache and are added with a popsicle stick. Each piece gets built up in an additive manner until it feels complete and worthy of its existence. I think of them as lovable, a bit funky, architectural, deceptive, feeling based and a bit heady. The goal is for them to give back more than the space that they take up. They look as if they could have been made by a weekend hobbyist in a garage who got a bit over-involved. They seem as if they have utility, like a clumsy toy rocket, but somehow we know that they are meant to sit still and simply “be”.
